Yes, the time has come. I should be sad, but frankly, I'm not. Because if one aspect of my life has kept me poor these last three years, it was the wagon. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! the service record, just so you have an idea.

Anyway, if any of you are in the KC area and you're looking for a good project, this is it.

you want to know what is odd, I am in the process of buying my first car, I was looking at a impreza wagon in my local craigslist just this afternoon. And there was an impreza wagon on it, but ad seems to have been removed

It's a nice bugeye, there's someone a block from me (I believe it's theirs) with a 2.5 RS Bugeye and I REALLY FUCKING WANT IT.

I know exactly how you feel. I tinkered so much with my old Civic that when I finally sold it, I was elated. I had to replace the transmission & a bunch of other things too, and gave up and put it for sale when the engine went.

Now here's the ponder.

I'm not knocking your local service place, but several of those listings in your journal seems to be originating from prior repairs, or were they just typical wear and tear with some attempts at 'the cheaper fix?' i.e. 'change the CV.. nope it is the transmission..'

..had you sought out and used a Subaru specialist shop would half of the repairs been avoided and possibly still running?

If anything just for sheer repetition and avoiding what's happened before. "Oh yeah Billy rotate that clamp around or it'll jam the linkage"

Then again I live in the North Carolina mountains, it's like village of the dammed Outbacks.

Yeah, alot of it was just wear and tear, and I get that. I'd pay for it with any car. But some of it, like the transmission, the diff, and even the radiator, was definitely not just regular maintenance.

The CV axle problem ended up being a ball joint, but the transmission went all at once.

At the beginning, I wanted to do everything at the Subaru dealership. Only Pleiades mechanics would touch this thing. But they just charged so much for everything. My first visit to a Subaru dealership, they charged me $100 to unplug a wire. I couldn't swing it.

I'd trust the 2.5RS over the WRX, actually. Thw WRX is a 2.0, which I don't think was ever strong enough for the car. The 2.5RS is the first choice of certain classes of rallyists.

Well, you can buy mine, but only if you want a project.

I sold my 2006 after it developed a rod knock over Loveland Pass, CO. I had over $20,000 in to that car... Now my radiator is cracked in the GTO. I guess it never ends.

Sigh.. Been there, but tend to buy at once and that puts the limit on choices..

I gave the "modern era" a fair chance, but my budget allowed a worn out newer one or a nice older one. So far so good..

Meanwhile, I guess you don't have a car?

here, it should be good to go, they just rebuilt the carburetor.

1983 2wd base model DL, not even a tachometer. 5 speed. 2wd.

Slow. Did I mention slow. Oh yeah, they're slow. But so are my fellow roadians.

I'm not going to be buying anything for a while. I'll be pedaling around until I can save up enough to pay cash.

And she knows that it's safer, cheaper, more practical, and more durable?

I'm just tired of owing. It's either interest from the bank or the danger of damaged relationships with people you owe. Avoiding all of that is worth riding my bike for a few months.
